- Responsibility of overall project report: For executive summary, project control team would like to turn responsibility to program manager in order to let him analyze and put action plan for overall program rather than just take a look and submit to client.
- Project point of view: from last week, Gary as Mapping project manager comment that the weekly report is not for project point of view. This report cannot support him because he cannot see all team member report in the same page. Then I try to adapt the report by extract man-hour and actual achieved milestone date of all member into the same page.
- Early/Late S-Curve: From the instructor’s comment, that our project would not much trouble if we plot early and late S-curve reference to Humphrey book chapter 10, figure 10-6, 10-7 and 10-8. From my thought, this is my step of work =>In order to plot the graph, we need to develop the schedule. Actually we already have total project schedule but that one we cannot use it because we stick the schedule to the week, not develop by using start + duration to get finish date as normal. So I change the unit of duration from hours to week by assumption that we can work 10 hours per week, I divide hours with 10 hours to get duraiton in week. Then I can count period in schedule as the week. After that I summarize the duration to get the resource requirement and distribute work load as previous assumption that we can work only 10 hours per week as resource loading process. Then i use the adjusted duration re-apply to the schdule to get the early schedule and its cost. And I work backward in order to get the late schedule, by the last week should not late than week 20 (week 21 will be summarize all deliverables to client)to I get the late schedule and its cost. Now we plot the graph. The graph show that we still in between early and late S-Curve but not so good because we move a bit much to the right of the graph, that get closer to the late S-Curve rather than move in upright position. This based on week 5 information. At least now we know that we are not too bad position but should improve before cannot recovery.
- Float Calculation: From the early and late S-Curve we already have schedule and able to calculate the float. But the actual schedule! How can I get this information? We as project control team has discussed many times on how this can be done, now I try to utilize as much as information we have to make it. So I use the actual achieved milestone date to be the early and late finished date. From my calculation, this will be update the actual float when milestone is reached. The result shows that the question project is the longest path and have plan float 2.5 weeks but now reduce to 1.63 weeks, our float is burning gradually.
From all above development together with EAC and time varinace calculation from Andi and Asril should be improved the quality of our weekly report. The other elements to make it better quality also are the project manager and program manger analysis and action plan.
Frankly that I ‘m very worry about the client comment from week to week but as my increasing knowledge and getting some hints from the instructors, pressure me very much to extract my ability to apply to the project. And I’m very impressed what I have done so far even it might seem to be nothing to others.
2. Apply to real life: After I read and do exercise in the chapter 4 Time Value of Money, Engineering Economy textbook, I plan to apply this calculation in insurance proposal that my friend offer. I have to pay x amount of money to the insurance company every year while I can use this amount to fund tax 20% every year. But it differentiate from the other proposal that after 8th years of deposit, the 9th year onward I can deposit and withdrawn this x amount of money in the same year. It’s very interesting for me but I don’t know whether it is the better or worse alternative when compare to bank interest rate or not. I plan to use formula in this personal investment and come back to tell the result next week.
